Documentation of Coursework - Clemson University & University of Minnesota in Montpellier, France

FRENCH:

 

FR1010 +1020 Elementary French courses that helped review basics of French language. Focused on basic comprehensive mediums, such as speaking, reading, writing, and reading comprehension. 1020 Course met weekly to watch and discuss movies of French origin in lab. Grammar fundamentals covered as well.

FR 2010: Continuation of beginner level French courses, while adding more conversation and dictation to help sculpt our language abilities, read many examples of French prose as well.

FR 2020: Additional development of my French reading, writing, and comprehension abilities. More French classics were read in this class as well, while reading and analyzing them from a literary and cultural perspective.

FR 3050: More intensive French conversation and comprehension class. Students are mostly proficient at the French language in this course. Oral practice, vocabulary building, and intonation were focused on as well. Our class did a large number of written assignments and essays to help build our fluency as well.

MONT 3014: Phonetics course, taken while studying abroad in Montpellier, France at Université Paul Valery. Weekly practice of oral production and pronunciation while emphasizing vowel sounds and differentiation. Class work was heavily involved with transcription of graphic and phonetic French language. Flow of sentences and proper auditory distinguishment were evaluated.

MONT 3301: Grammar and methodology course, taken while studying abroad in Montpellier, France at Université Paul Valery. Class meetings focused on understanding connections between verb tenses and grammar utilization. Also concentrated on reading comprehension and vocabulary related to French daily live. Our class was evaluated on writing abilities in essay form, while being graded on grammar and vocabulary usage.

MONT 3303: Accompanying course taken alongside completion of my internship while studying abroad, this course was taught in French at the UMN program center in Montpellier. This course allowed us to dive deeper into French culture, through teachings of government, daily life, and current issues facing French citizens. We were taught cultural context regarding French social issues and hardships that the French immigrants and working-class alike experience.

FR 4980: Independent study substitution for French for international business II, currently in progress, this course goes in depth into the daily challenges and nuances faced by the French working class. Assignments include writing business letters and comprehension of commercial French business language.

FR 3040: French short story course currently in progress. Our class focuses on reading French classic poems and literature, such as those by La Fontaine, Villon, and Voltaire. The class discussion is student led with insight from professor. We focus on providing context and understanding the author’s intent.

FR 3170: French civilization course currently in progress. Lessons are generally historically focused and provide insight into what has shaped French culture into its present-day representation. French culture, formation, language regions, geography, and colonies all covered.

MISCELLANEOUS:

 

LAIB 1270: Introductory course to the language and international business major. Mainly covered basic topics such as opportunities and information for business majors. Had opportunities to be introduced to the career fair, career center, and more. This course gave me an opportunity to assess the international job market.

ENGL 3040: In this business writing course, our class focused on the proper ways to articulate letters and articles shared within firms. Weekly writings and discussions regarding business-related writings and analyzing their meaning. The main project attempted in this class was proposing improvements and suggestions to a business of our choice, followed by a presentation.

LANG 4990: A language portfolio course currently in progress, this class helps students develop their eDossier and properly present themselves to the job market. This course is a good opportunity to assemble the assignments and knowledge collected over the course of four years and display it in one location.

BUSINESS:

 

MATH 1020+2070: Business calculus classes, dealt with solving financial problems through the use of graphing and finances. Differentiation, integration, and functions topics also covered. Second business calculus included multiple variables and intervals, using management science concepts.

ECON 2110: Introductory economics class at Clemson University, microeconomics focused mainly on the relationship between consumers and business firms and how they affect one another. Monopolization, competition, and some international trade relation topics were covered.

ECON 2120: Principles of Macroeconomics, a class that continues to build off the knowledge gained in microeconomics, this course was more internally focused. Our class covered often news-worthy topics, such as inflation and its causes, unemployment, and fluctuation of economic growth.

 

ECON 3100: International economics course, we focused mainly on the reasons why countries trade with one another, and the opportunity cost of doing so. Trade barriers, embargos, and policy issues that affect worldwide economic movement were also covered.

ECON 3030: Economics and sports course currently in progress. Our class covers economics from a sports perspective, often using European football as an example. The economic reasons behind team decisions, player choices, and the economic benefits of sports teams. Debate between groups of classmates over selected related topics near the end of the semester.

MGT 2010: Taken asynchronously, this principles of management class covered basic essential information regarding how effective management is important for production. Course topics mainly focused on organizational structure, behavior, and how all the employees within a firm are tied together.

MGT 3180: A management of information systems class, this course focused more closely on the systems that power today’s firms, namely hardware, support systems, and database information systems. Concentration on how systems and databases are crucial for managing firms efficiently.

MGT 4230: International business management course, focusing on why businesses abroad and domestically function in different ways, regulations facing firms, and cultural differences that create challenges for companies. Semester long project focusing on a hypothetical situation: bringing an American company to a foreign market and analyzing their chances of succeeding.

ACCT 2010: Principles of accounting class, we were taught the basics of accounting and how to work our way around a spread sheet. We spent time with balance sheets, income statements, and problem solved using cash flow statements. 

MKT 3010: Principles of marketing class, basic beginner level course that was concentrated on how products are distributed and advertised by companies. Marketing decisions and processes for firms, why choices are made.

MKT 3020: Consumer behavior, continuation of the foundational topics that were covered in principles of marketing. This course considers the consumer side of advertising and distribution, namely how population groups change business decisions, and changes over time in domestic advertising. Analyzing individual and group behavior decision making process from a scientific perspective.

MKT 4270: International marketing course, focused on advertising on a global scale. We emphasized the decisions that international firms make depending on their target market. Semester-long project was to propose a new restaurant venture, given a country, and adjust and plan accordingly based upon that country’s market segment.

MONT 3802: Global business class taken while studying abroad. Taught in English, our class covered topics such as constructive teamwork, business laws in France, and working cooperatively with international coworkers. Field trips taken to distribution warehouses and vineyards. Large portion of grade received in class pertained to global business project: each group was given a case study with the goal of writing solutions and presenting them to students across the globe.

French Culture

Internship in France - Prof. Dumas 12/18/24. This essay, written in accompaniment to a group presentation about women's place in French society, covers the evolution of women's rights laws and an interview I did with my homestay family. This strengthened my French writing proficiency and ability to transcribe the language. 

Business

Case Study - Global Business & Industry - Prof. Ghellini 11/20/24. This PowerPoint was created to showcase a group case study I did while studying abroad. Each person in my class was assigned a group of international students participating in the global case study challenge. My role in the group was to present the PowerPoint to the other participants worldwide on a Zoom call. 

Business Writing Proposal Presentation - Professor Martin 4/30/24. For this semester-long project, we were assigned the task of writing proposals for a business of our choosing. The proposals and write-ups cumulated in a PowerPoint at the end of the semester. 

French Proficiency

Presentation on the Dreyfus Affair (In French) - Prof. Salces y Nedeo 4/26/24 - Intermediate French Conversation. This was a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating my language abilities and my conversational flow. 

Midterm exam for Professor Touya's French short story course. 2/25/2025. Topics include literature analysis and historical context identification. This assessment showcases knowledge I have gained from this class and my understanding of prominent French writers & their work. 

French Literature 

Composition for Prof. Touya's French Short Story class - 4/9/2025. This essay was a conversation about the romantic aspects of Chateaubriand's writings. I took a detailed dive into his expedition to the new world and his imaginative style.  

The two documents above represent another portion of the business proposal completed for Professor Martin in Spring 2024. The "objective + key results" write-up represents objectives for the chosen company followed by a chart mapping out these goals in smaller, achievable pieces. The second document, "business premortem," showcases some faults the business currently faces and how to solve these issues. This class was an excellent opportunity to grow my business writing skills and put myself in the shoes of a business consultant. 

Intl. Business Management Proposal Presentation - Prof. Peschiera 4/28/24. My role for this project was to present the final conclusion, which was to recommend Hulu enter the Indian market for business. We gathered research from sources commonly used by multinational corporations to conduct research of their own.
